More Changes at Eat Auckland

Hi I’m Mary Taylor, and I’m enjoying being the new owner of Eat Auckland Walking Food Tours. If you’ve already met me, you’ll know that food is my passion and my mission is “through food, an insight into another world”. Covid has limited our ability to travel to another world, but fortunately Auckland has a richly diverse and incredibly interesting food scene.

Meri Kirihimete and Hari Tau Hou,                             December 2021

As 2021 draws to a close I have been able to reflect on the enormity of the impact of the Pandemic.

Unable to take others to my favourite overseas food destinations like Morocco, Myanmar, India, Indonesia and Sri Lanka I have discovered the food world in my own back yard. Buying Eat Auckland has enabled me to still go to India – in Sandringham and to Sri Lanka – in Panmure.  Being introduced to Panmure has allowed me to also enjoy the food of the Silk route – from flat bread of Afghanistan, to Beijing Duck, to Indian Dosa, to Cambodian Satay, to Malaysian Nasi, to Singaporean Laksa – and more- so much more, like German Pretzels and South African Bunny Chow.

The Auckland lockdown played havoc with my Eat Auckland tours and as so many of my tour food stops are authentic but small places it has been difficult to restart under current restrictions – however as soon as we hit Traffic Light Orange it will be happening and tours dates and times will be advertised on my website or by direct mail.

NB NB Great News For all those who have already purchased EAT auckland vouchers, rest assured the validity of these has been extended by 6 months: and for people looking for a great Christmas present that will benefit yourselves and the hardworking teams in the cafes of Sandringham and Panmure, please consider purchasing an EAT Auckland voucher. These can be emailed to you in time for Christmas.

I look forward to walking and eating with you in 2022. The wonderful teams who cook, share their tales and feed us can’t wait to see you and join me in wishing you a great 2022- Stay Safe- Stay Well

Lincoln Tan from the NZ Herald has tempted me to explore some new flavour destinations in Auckland …………. watch this space! Read his  NZ Herald article on how EatAuckland can help you taste the world without travelling overseas.

Hope to see you soon! Mary
